Railfan Monday……

Yesterday while out and about we caught the daily job once again switching the local industries. We first saw GP7 5628 switching a C&O gondola into Paxton-Sullivan scrapyard as seen below:

We next caught 5628 spotting an ex-LEF&C boxcar to the team track:

Finally, we snapped photos of 5628 spotting a Cotton Belt boxcar at Armitage Furniture:

Coming next year…..

 Coming next year to the layout is this new (to me anyway) DCC system from TCS. I have been operating on a local layout that uses the newer Wi-Fi version and love how it handles! My NCE system is great but after 13 years it seems it’s wearing out. Here’s what’s coming: https://www.tcsdcc.com/about-lt-50

All but two….!

 

With newly arrived linker plugs to separate all the street lights on the layout, I now have all but two lights working and hope to have those rewired today. Here’s the layout now with almost all lights hooked up!

Recent PC action…..

Two days ago we were out again in our usual spot to catch the local job out of Ivorydale yard switching the local industries. We caught usual 5628 moving an ex-Railgon now B&O gondola into the scrapyard as seen below:

We next caught the local pulling out three boxcars from the team track, Stephen’s Grocery Distributors, and Armitage Furniture as shown below:

Next up came a PC reefer for Stephen’s, a St. Lawrence boxcar for the team track, and an all door boxcar for Armitage:

We had to leave just as the crew was taking a lunch break as seen above. Stay tuned…..

Nighttime on the railroad…..

 

Railroads are a 24 hour a day business, 7 days a week. Busier customers especially require more switching, some two or three shifts in a 24 hour period. So it’s not unusual to catch the PC out working all hours, rain or shine. We happened to be out and about coming through our usual railfan haunt and found the local third trick crew working.

Tonight they’re going about their business switching out Proctor and Gamble. Below are more photos we snapped of the action:

More lights installed….

 

Headed to a train show today in northern Colorado I picked up three more street lights from Woodland Scenics and installed all three this evening. I realized however that I needed some more linker plugs, so I still have several lights as shown in the dark foreground area above not hooked up, but those plugs are coming hopefully before Christmas. Stay tuned…..!

Some quick action yesterday…

 

We caught some quick PC action yesterday, as the area local out of ivorydale yard was working. We first caught him switching out a rusted scrap gon from Paxton-Sullivan scrapyard:

We then caught him spotting a 50’ ft PC boxcar at the team track dock:

Finally, we snapped a few of 5628 spotting an HLMX boxcar full of dry goods at Stephen’s Grocery Distributors:
