Sedamsville local….

We recently went out railfanning and caught the PC local crew switching the industries out along the Ohio River. So this is the Sedamsville local job out of the former NYC Riverside yard in the suburb of Sedamsville west of downtown Cincinnati.

We first saw 5628 leave the crew shack and proceed over to the Armitage, team track area to pick up the cars from the team track, Armitage, and Stephen’s Grocery Distributors. We watched as the crew pulled out the insulated N&W box, the Railbox car, and the OC&E boxcar from Armitage. We snapped the first photo of 5628 coming down the lead towards us, then snapped photos of him pulling the cars out onto the main:

After these cars were pulled out, we snapped photos of the crew first spotting a steel coil car on the team track:

Next the crew spotted a PC reefer at Stephen’s Grocery:

Next we see the crew spotting an SRN boxcar at the off spot on the team track:

Finally, we see the crew spotting an all door lumber car at Armitage Furniture:

The crew then called a halt as they went to lunch, so we’ll pick it up next time as the crew switches Monsanto Chemical. Stay tuned….!

Recent railfan activity…..

We recently hit our usual railfan spot not too long before dusk and caught the second trick local working the local industries. We first caught GP7 5628 pulling a Southern gon from the scrapyard and spotting a Chessie System gon and PC gondola as shown below:

Next we caught the crew grabbing a Railbox car then spotting it at the team track dock:

The crew then parked the geep next to Armitage Furniture to take a lunch break networking Monsanto Chemical, so we were able to get a great close up of the front end of the old girl:

Coming up, part two as we catch the local working Monsanto right before dark, so stay tuned….!

OpsBuddy…..

I’ve recently run across a system on YouTube built for small, shelf type model layouts without many industries. In fact, the developer only has five industries on his layout. With only six on mine I thought I’d give this a try! You can find the video of this system here: https://youtu.be/INmIw8Ijwx8?si=JbcvtsoE0xYZRYPg

However, this is basically a series of Excel spreadsheets that you set up for your railroad. It is not like a system such as JMRI that will auto populate everything. So basically you’re moving things around on the spreadsheet manually after entering your car inventory in. To determine what industries get worked and how many of what type cars it receives you roll a 20 sided dice. I’ve set up the first switchlist for the layout as shown below. Notice the “Penn Central Transportation Company” at top right plus the name of the local switch job, the “Sedamsville local”. I’ll report back how this works shortly! Switchlist is below:
