The layout…..

Thought I’d post these photos of the layout as it looked in my previous post supposedly not too long after dawn broke:

Blue bulbs, trains, and the dog…

Here’s what I’m watching usually when I’m posting on the website, in this shot with our dog looking my way as I’m watching this great video on the Durango and Silverton tourist line here in SW Colorado:

And now about the blue bulbs! I’m about ready to purchase a two pack of blue bulbs from a local hardware to install in my table lamp that sits diagonally across from the layout so I can simulate the “blue hour” before dark. If these work, watch for photos soon….

The Cincinnati terminal sub at sunrise…

We were up very early recently to catch the first trick PC crew as they moved out of Riverside yard and moved along the Ohio River as the sun was just coming up over the eastern hills of Cincinnati.

It was still a bit dark as the crew got onboard 5628 and got ready to start the days work:

With a bit of fog off the river the crew’s first job was to pull the gasoline tank car out of McGraw fuel and oil:

After spotting on the main, we see 5628 headed for the switching lead into Armitage, Stephen’s, and the team track:

There was only one car to still pull off a siding and that was the GWF boxcar off the team track:

When the crew pulled this car out to the main we took these early morning shots of Stephen’s and Armitage with the sun shining on both buildings:

We then watched 5628 bring a boxcar load of canned goods into Stephen’s:

Next up saw the crew spotting an ICG car to Armitage Furniture:

Finally, we caught the crew spotting a BKTY boxcar at the team track:

With this we ran out of time, so again we’ll pick up with switching Monsanto Chemicals next installment…..

Stay tuned…..!

Stay tuned for the next operating session with the above switch list…..

Part three…..

A little bit late in posting part three, but here we pick up on our last railfan outing. Starting with where we left off, the crew of the local today was driven over by crew taxi outside the entrance to Paxton-Sullivan scrap as 5628 was left in their siding as seen above.

First we caught 5628 heading down the main to pick up its cars for today’s work, the first one being a C&O reefer for Stephen’s Grocery, then shoving it down the siding to the dock:

So we assumed the Galveston Wharves boxcar was not completely unloaded, so the crew didn’t work the team track this trip. The next car was a SOO Line bulkhead flat with more lumber. This is the second time recently we’ve seen a load of lumber like this on flats, so we assumed also that Armitage must have a huge special order to produce! Photos below of this move:

The next moves the crew made was to move a B&O plus Illinois Terminal scrap gondolas into the scrapyard:

Finally we watched the crew move a GATX tank car of gasoline into McGraw fuel oil and gasoline dealer as shown:

With this we again ran out of time, so we didn’t get to see the crew work Monsanto so we’ll save that for the next time!

New PC action…..

Actually, this is part two where we left off almost anyway. Today we’re going to see the crew on 5628 pulling cars from Armitage, Stephen’s Grocery Distributors, and the scrapyard. First we caught 5628 pulling the empty UPFE reefer from Stephen’s plus the loaded C&NW woodchip car from Armitage:

After shoving these cars out onto the main, the crew also pulled the empty SRN boxcar from the team track ramp and spotted the GWF boxcar:

The crew then went to work pulling the two scrap gons from Paxton-Sullivan:

The crew then parked the geep on their siding and went to lunch:

This is where we had to leave for the day. I’ll pick up part three tomorrow!

Stay tuned for parts 2 and 3….!

Stay tuned for not only part two where we finish up the last switching session but also the next operating session. Here’s the new switch list ready to go….!

Day to railfan…..

So this was our next visit out to trackside along the Penn Central and B&O. As usual GP7 5628 was the power for the local as we first caught the crew pulling cars from Stephen’s Grocery, the team track, and Armitage Furniture. These cars included pulling the all door boxcar and empty bulkhead flat from Armitage plus the PC reefer from Stephen’s:

The crew then coupled onto the SRN boxcar in the off spot position on the team track along with the now empty P&LE coil car and pulled these out to the main:

We then followed the crew as they pulled two gons from the scrapyard and spotted a Southern gondola and a B&O gon in their place:

That’s all for today. In part two I’ll cover 5628 spotting more loads at Stephen’s, the team track, and Armitage so stay tuned!

A huge thank you....!

Just a shout out to all those looking at this website for my layout for the fact it just turned over 10,000 views yesterday! So a BIG thank...
