A hot car….!

We were just lucky to be down along the tracks this afternoon when we caught the local with an ex-PRR cabin now in PC livery swapping out the all door boxcar for a hot car that was on the team track in the off spot. Talking to the foreman on the dock at Armitage we were told the PRR boxcar that was spotted had much needed stains and paints. Here’s the action we caught:

New chemical tank in service….

GATX 5071 is a “new” chemical tank car in service. The car started originally as a chemical tank car quite awhile back that was completely repainted and re-lettered for a Cargill corn syrup car on the old layout. Now it’s been patched and re-lettered one more time as a car carrying caustic soda.

A change coming….

Soon I’ll be swapping out my Bachmann resin electric substation shown below for the FOS Scale Models diner also shown below. The diner won’t be as dirty and weathered however and won’t have the rooftop sign…

A look at the layout…..

Here is an overall look at the layout currently. I’m thinking of replacing the electric substation with a diner so stay tuned for that! Great news as well as I’ve been approached by the two top model railroad magazines to do articles about the layout!

Latest PC action part 1….

Join me again as we catch some recent Penn Central action on the Cincinnati Terminal sub. We recently went back out along the sub and caught the local again out of Riverside yard,

This time we saw PC NW2 8806 doing the honors in place of the regular locomotive GP7 5628 which is offline having its inspection done. When we arrived 8806 was in the locomotive pocket by the small yard office getting their paperwork for the day’s work as seen below.

We followed the crew as they first swapped out gondolas at the scrapyard:

Next, the crew started pulling empties out of the team track, Armitage Furniture, and Stephen’s Grocery Distributor as seen below:

The crew then proceeded to spot their inbound loaded cars including a rare scheme on a 50’PC boxcar that went to the team track dock. The other cars included a UPFE reefer for Stephen’s and an all door Thrall boxcar for Armitage:

Finally, in this segment as the crew on 8806 were about to take a lunch break we watched them spot a 50’ PRR boxcar at the off spot position on the team track:

In part two we’ll cover the local switching out Monsanto…

Recent railroad action….

In this most recent railfan outing we again catch GP7 5628 switching the usual industries along the Ohio. First thing we caught the crew doing was swapping out a Chessie and B&O gondola from Paxton-Sullivan scrapyard for a PC gondola and rusted Railgon as seen below:

Next up we see the local swapping out the PC reefer at Stephen’s Grocery for the Southern reefer that was on the team track off spot, then the crew picked up the HLMX boxcar at the team track dock. Next up came spotting the 50’ft Southern boxcar at Armitage Furniture:

And sometimes the gremlins get you as we ran out of film at this point and didn’t have another roll in the camera bag. By the time we returned with another roll ready to go night had fallen but we were still able to see the crew spot a Milwaukee boxcar on the team track dock and a TASD boxcar at the off spot:

We that we called it a day. Rumor from the crew has it that they’ll soon be using an NW2 switch engine out of Riverside yard as their geep goes to Sharon yard up north s bit for its inspection! Hopefully if so we’ll catch that locomotive next time….

A huge thank you....!

Just a shout out to all those looking at this website for my layout for the fact it just turned over 10,000 views yesterday! So a BIG thank...
