Here’s my most recent car that is now finished and on the layout! This is a Walther’s Mainline series car purchased from Spring Creek Model Trains in Nebraska. I wanted a Rock Island car for the layout, as I have a fondness for short line railroads and fallen flags.
Anyway, this car was first sprayed with a medium brown acrylic paint to tone done the glossy brown appearance. A diluted rust texture was used along the door edges, along the side ribs and along the bottom followed by a blackish pigment plus dark earth. Same was applied on the car ends. The underside was done in my usual fashion while the roof had just a slight wash of brown followed by a light earth color pigment lightly dabbed on. ACI plates were applied last to finish the car.
