My previous layout as some of you may know was the NYC/PC Hitop Branch, based on the line that ran from southern Ohio across into the hills of West Virginia. The original 4x8 layout was copied from the Virginian project layout that Model Railroader started in January 2012. My layout eventually wound up being wrapped around three walls of my garage, and simulated the area between Dickinson yard over to Nitro, WV, with the actual Hitop Branch running up to two coal mines.
The layout was really not completed until about 2022, but is a layout ever really completed? The Hitop Branch was published twice, once in the March 2016 issue of Model Railroader and again in 2022 in the digital modeling magazine of the Penn Central Historical Society. During a necessary move in May 2022 the layout was dismantled and stored where it remains today. Space limitations in my new place only allowed the use of two modules which I’ll post about soon. In the meantime, here are a few photos from the Hitop Branch:
