I’ve been asked in the past why did I pick the Penn Central to model? Simple actually, as I grew up around it for one. My grandparents lived between two PC yards, so when visiting I would hang around one of these yards. We always had to pass a PC yard at a spot called Ivorydale , named for the huge Proctor and Gamble complex which among other products made Ivory soap there. This is one yard I would hang around while growing up.
In my later years as listed in my profile I worked for a local area railroad as a brakeman/conductor and later as their track inspector which was all on former Penn Central lines. While growing up as well my family always rode NYC/PRR/PC passenger trains from Cincinnati to Chicago. Finally, I decided to model PC. as they ran everything from SW1’s to GG1’s, so I could take my pick as far as locomotive models, plus a variety of different rolling stock including cabooses or cabin cars if you prefer!
